Transgenic Mutations
The modern chimera is a corporately derived transgenic mutation meant to improve nature at the pleasure of the shareholders. Scientists freely manipulate DNA and engage in the creation of new hybrid species. The boundaries blur between natural and man-made.
My aesthetic walks an uncomfortable and careful line between the beautiful and grotesque, between cute and creepy. I seek to seduce and repel the viewer simultaneously using rich color, shiny surfaces and elaborate paint application to explore disturbing and unsettling content. These sculptures are concerned with the environment and science, the genetic manipulation of DNA and the potential end results of these cultural and biological experiments, and the corresponding relationship to consumerism.
These works walk that dissolving borderline. Teetering between organic and mechanical, beauty and beast, they are blinged up grotesqueries questioning the human involvement with the future of the planet.
